Reports To: Corporate Payroll Manager

Role Challenges:

  • Selected candidate will have an extensive background in California payroll procedures and requirements, which must be rolled out to working methodologies in various other states.
  • Must interpret and apply various aspects of Union agreement rules as they relate to payroll functions

Accountability:

Selected candidate will be responsible for tracking, processing and maintaining payroll related information input to Remote Date Entry System (RDES) through the Construction Management System from Computer Guidance Corporation (CMS) payroll database, including but not limited to vacation, sick, garnishments, spreadsheet preparation, original entries into general ledger; assist with monthly financial close, Comdata loading requests and additional payroll duties as needed.

Key Working Relationships:

This function reports to the Corporate Payroll Manager. In addition, this position will be required to interface closely with the Regional controllers and Service Centers

Responsibilities:

Payroll Direction:

  • Maintain and audit daily wage and hour activity to include daily exception reports and manual time card entry
  • Prepares and audits weekly payroll transmission to identify discrepancies prior to payroll release
  • Track vacation, sick and holiday accruals
  • Sorts and distributes weekly paychecks for proper delivery
  • Maintain check logs for bank reconciliations
  • Provide continual process improvement and monitoring
  • Supervise staff of four

Ensure accurate and timely reporting for internal purposes in addition to required regulatory and agency reporting:

  • Resolve issues as they arise
  • Ad-Hoc reporting

Special Considerations:

  • Experience using an in-house Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, including system implementation/conversion
  • Proven knowledge of and work with labor reporting interface to payroll
  • Leadership skills with at least 2 years experience hiring, managing, and developing a highly talented team
  • Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment
  • Flexible and cooperative; ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Provide high level of self motivation and direction
  • Exceptional customer-service orientation, communication and interpersonal skills, and detail orientation
  • Analytical skills to identify and solve problems
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Detail oriented with a positive, take-charge attitude
  • Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills
  • Construction industry experience a plus

Education:

  • Five years in the payroll profession and at least 2 years supervisory experience
  • FPC certification strongly preferred

Compensation:

  • Commensurate with Experience
